Wolven | Di Toft
When Nat asked for a dog, he never thought he'd get one like this - a howler with patchy white fur, orange eye and a strange tattoo. He quickly learns Woody is not a dog at all, but Wolven. Will his shape-shifting abilities keep him out of trouble, or lead the secret government agency on the prowl for him right to Nat's door?
I really liked this book up until the last 20 pages. The story is well-paced and action packed, with a quick reveal, bullying side story, appropriate amount of magical lore and an adorable set of grandparents. There was even an absentee father with unusual back story. It zipped nicely along as I took care of my sick boyfriend and began a fresh cycle of classes. But when I settled in to complete it with my afternoon snack, I was deeply saddened by the saccharine ending. All that action and adventure for... this? Sigh. On to the next one.
